PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 controller and 'share' button revealed (Photos)

On Feb. 21, 2013 Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc. revealed the new PlayStation 4 Dualshock 4 Controller during a press event at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, New York.

The DualShock 4 boasts several new improvements over the DualShock 3 wireless controller:

  • Motion control
  • More precise analog sticks
  • Curved, easier to use L2/R2 buttons
  • New "Options" button
  • "Share" button

One of the biggest features of the DualShock 4 controller is the new "Share" button which allows players to broadcast their gameplay in real-time. Players can upload pictures and videos to Facebook within seconds after pressing the "Share" button.

This means players won't need to pay for expensive third party devices like the Hauppauge HD PVR in order to capture their own gameplay videos.

There's also a new LED light bar on the front of the controller which glows the same color as the player. Games can also use the light to change color when they take damage. The light is also tracked by a new peripheral, a dual camera that sees depth and can track the controller. There's four microphones in the camera and it supports the PlayStation Move controller too.

A new touchpad on the front of the DualShock 4 controller offers a new way to play games and there's also a "built-in speaker and headset jack." The PlayStation 4 will come bundled with a headset to plug into the controller.
