Band to play the Connor Palace Theatre on September 12, 2014
Tickets are now on sale and are only $30.00 each
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the rock band Gov’t Mule and in celebration of their “20 Years Strong Tour” they will be taking the stage in PlayhouseSquare at the Connor Palace theatre on September 12, 2014 at 7:30 p.m.
The group got their start in 1994 as a side project of The Allman Brothers Band with original members Warren Haynes and bassist Allen Woody (who passed away in 2000). The group is a southern rock jam band in the vein of “The Grateful Dead” (who was often referred to as “The Dead”) and many fans of Gov’t Mule refer to the group simply as “The Mule”. The band released its first album in 1995 and since them have gone on to record a total of nine additional albums in their career. Playing music festivals across North America, the group often has special guests from other notable bands sit in on their sets adding unique blends of funk, blues and rock to the group’s overall sound.
The band is now fronted by singer-guitarist extraordinaire Warren Haynes (Allmond Brothers, The Dead) with the group becoming a traveling encyclopedia of great American Music. Their sets have been characterized as honest, organic and daring during their inventive and incendiary live musical performances. This year’s tour follows the release of their double disc album “Shout!” that features 11 songs plus a bonus disc that has a world class lineup re-interpreting “Mule’s” new songs.
Special guests on the album include: Elvis Costello, Dr. John, Ben Harper, Toots Hibbert, Glenn Hughes, Jim James, Myles Kennedy, Dave Matthews, Grace Potter, Vintage Trouble’s Ty Taylor and Steve Winwood.
The new album, “Shout!” offers some of the most extraordinary playing in Gov’t Mule’s rich, sonically colorful history and the album’s incredible scope ranges from the suite-like epic “Bring on the Music” to the snarling punk rock anthem “Funny Little Tragedy” to the soul-reggae testifier “Scared to Live.”
Gov’t Mule will perform September 12, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. on PlayhouseSquare’s Connor Palace stage. Tickets are $30 each. Tickets are on sale now. To purchase tickets onloine you can go to playhousesquare.org, call in your order at (216) 241-6000 or visit the PlayhouseSquare Ticket Office.
