As the story goes, Sam Philips (the “Father of Rock and Roll” and owner of Sun Records) gathered together four of his top singers on December 4, 1956 that included Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley. From that simple storefront studio in Memphis, Tennessee came what was to be known as the greatest rock and roll jam session in history.
“Million Dollar Quartet” brings to life that legendary meeting with all of its tales of broken promises, secrets, betrayal, humorous banter and celebrations. The show includes such hits as “Blue Suede Shoes,” “That’s All Right,” “Sixteen Tons,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “I Walk the Line,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’On,” “See Ya Later, Alligator,” “Fever,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Hound Dog” and more. The show is directed by Eric Schaeffer with book by Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux with Derek McLane doing scenic design, Howell Binkley with Lighting design, Jane Greenwood designing the costumes, Kai Harada with the sound design and Chuck Mead in charge of musical arrangements and supervision.
“Million Dollar Quartet” is produced by Relevant Theatricals, John Cossette Productions, American Pop Anthology and Broadway Across America.
