The Playhouse 51 Community Theatre in Millington is inviting all actors and interested community members to come to the auditions for the comedic farce, BLACK COMEDY, by Peter Shaffer on Friday, January 17, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, January 18, from 10 a.m. to Noon. The play’s cast calls for 5 males (ranging in age from 20 to 60) and 3 females (ranging in age from 20 to 50.)

The play revolves around artist Brindsley Miller’s doomed efforts of to get his art work seen by a famous collector and to impress his new fiancé’s father. To help accomplish these goals, Brindsley and girlfriend, Carol, have “borrowed” on the sly some of the expensive furniture and antiques pieces of apartment neighbor, Harold (but only because Harold is out of town for the weekend and doesn’t know about it.) Just as everything is about to come together and success is insured, the electricity in the building goes out and suddenly no one can see anything! It is then that not only does the father show up, but so does Harold! Also stumbling into the apartment are Brindsley’s old maid neighbor, Miss Furnival; the electric company repairman/art connoisseur , Schuppanzigh; and most unexpectedly, Brindsely’s old girlfriend, Clea! And with nobody able to see anyone or anything , everything can and does happen!

Michael Moore is set to direct with Kathy Master serving as stage manager.
Rehearsals will begin on January 20th and the play will be presented to the public on March 7,8, 14, and 15 at 7:30 p.m. and on March 9 at 2 pm. For more information call 901-872-7170 or visit the theatre website: www.playhouse51.com or visit us on Facebook.
