The following is a list of the players with the most triple-doubles in NBA playoffs history. These are not the players with the most triple-doubles in NBA history, but the players who have recorded the most triple-doubles in the playoffs.
This is a great list because there are three active players on it, and two of the active players are near the top. You can see the players with the most triple-doubles in regular season play at Players with the most triple-doubles in NBA history (20 Photos).
Players with the most triple-doubles in NBA playoffs history
1. Magic Johnson - 30
Magic Johnson recorded an amazing 30 triple-doubles in the NBA playoffs. Easily the highest total in NBA playoffs history. Magic Johnson played in 190 playoff games, so he had a triple-double in just under 16% of the NBA playoff games he played.
T-2. LeBron James - 11
So far in his NBA career, LeBron James has 11 triple-doubles in the playoffs. That is tied for the second most in NBA history. I would say the odds are pretty high that LeBron James will add to his triple-double totals in the NBA playoffs.
T-2. Jason Kidd - 11
Jason Kidd, now the Brooklyn Nets head coach, had 11 triple-doubles in the NBA Playoffs, which is tied with LeBron for the second most ever. Jason Kidd played in 158 NBA playoff games, so he had a triple-double in 7% of his playoff games.
T-4. Rajon Rondo - 10
Rajon Rondo has 10 triple-doubles in 92 career NBA playoff games so far in his career. That's just under 12%.
T-4. Larry Bird - 10
Larry Bird had 10 career triple-doubles in the playoffs in 164 playoff games. That's a 6.1% average.
6. Wilt Chamberlain - 9
Wilt Chamberlain recorded nine triple-doubles in the playoffs in 160 playoff games. That is a 5.6% average, but that is probably not accurate as the NBA did not record blocked shots during Wilt Chamberlain's career. Wilt was a great shot blocker and there are accounts of games where he blocked 10 or more shots in a game.
7. Oscar Robertson - 8
Oscar Robertson had eight triple-doubles in 86 career NBA playoff games. That's a 9.3% average. Oscar Robertson had 181 triple-doubles in 1,080 career regular season games, which averages out to 16.8%.
The reason Oscar Robertson has a lower percentage of triple-double games in the NBA playoffs is because he played more playoff games later in his career and he recorded many fewer triple-doubles later in his career.
8. John Havlicek - 5
John Havlicek of the Boston Celtics had five triple-doubles in the playoffs in 172 career playoff games.
T-9. Tim Duncan - 4
So far in his NBA career, Tim Duncan has recorded four triple-doubles in the NBA playoffs. That is one more triple-double than he has in regular season games.
T-9. Charles Barkley - 4
T-9. Scottie Pippen - 4
T-9. Walt (Clyde) Frazier - 4
T-9. Elgin Baylor - 4
