Players and celebrities to walk red carpet at LA Tennis Challenge Monday night

Luke Wilson, Jodie Foster, and Christian Ponder are some of the Hollywood celebrities expected at the LA Tennis Challenge held at UCLA’s newly renovated Pauley Pavilion on Monday, March 4.

Los Angeles resident Mardy Fish, current world ranking no. 27 (highest ranking 2011 no. 7), with 7 career titles, hopes to make the LA Tennis Challenge an annual event, which brings together the community, celebrities and tennis fans to raise money for some very worthy charities and foundations. He said, “It will also grow and promote the sport in Southern California. We hope to establish the LA Tennis Challenge as one of the most important social and sporting events of the year.” He and former top ranked touring pro and current Tennis Channel personality Justin Gimelstob had a good hand in selecting world class players for Monday’s event.

  • Former World No. 1 with 14 Grand Slam Singles titles Pete Sampras
  • ATP World Tour star and United States Davis Cup player Mardy Fish
  • All-time winningest doubles team Bob and Mike Bryan
  • Former Top 4 player James Blake
  • Current world-ranked No. 18 Tommy Haas

Players will be playing for charity with proceeds from the event benefiting the Justin Gimelstob Children’s Fund, the Mardy Fish Children’s Foundation, the Novak Djokovic Foundation, Call to Cure and the Southern California Tennis Association’s community tennis initiatives.

Monday night’s schedule:

  • 5:30pm – VIP area opens
  • 6:00pm doors open to general public
  • Play starts at 7:00pm
  • All matches will be an 8-game pro-set
  • Opening singles match featuring
    Tommy Haas vs. James Blake
  • Featured singles match:
    Novak Djokovic vs. Mardy Fish
  • Featured doubles match:
    Djokovic and Pete Sampras vs. Bob and Mike Bryan

Tennis Channel broadcaster and event promoter Justin Gimelstob announced that numerous Hollywood celebrities, including Luke Wilson, Evan Handler, Jodie Foster, Kyle Rudolph, Greg Germann, Tim Olyphant, Kaley Cuoco, Christian Ponder, Keenan Ivory Wayans plus many others are scheduled to attend.
