The 2013 National Lacrosse League season opener is now just a little more than 24 hours away as the Rochester Knighthawks will take on the Washington Stealth tomorrow night in Everett at 10:00 p.m. Eastern. This means that the 2013 Fantasy Lacrosse Challenge is also about to begin.
With over 2,900 registered teams last season, the Fantasy Lacrosse Challenge was a huge success. Tons of prizes were given out in the form of gift cards to the NLL Store to the team(s) that had the most fantasy points each week. The team who finished the season with the most fantasy points overall also received some autographed memorabilia from the All-Star game.
This year the Fantasy Challenge has been improved in several ways. First of all, the NLL cut the number of transition players on the roster from three to two. Starting salaries have been reduced from $120 to $100 in order to make the game more skill-intensive at the start of the season. Goaltenders have also seen a significant change as goalies are now scored as a team rather than as individual players (much like using a team defense in fantasy football).
Fans will be happy to here there have also been some interface changes. You'll now be able to see player matchups right on the transactions page and player value changes will also be displayed on your roster to let you know more readily which of your players are going up or down in value.
Knighthawks fans will have another reason to get involved in fantasy lacrosse this season. There is a mini-league set up specifically for Knighthawks fans and the team who has the most fantasy points by the end of the season will win autographed Casey Powell jersey. Awesome!
To participate, you first need to register a team on the Fantasy Lacrosse Challenge. You can do so here: http://fantasy.nll.com
Once you have registered, click on the "Leagues" tab. Click the "Join a Mini League" button and enter the league ID: 08986a123bde. Once you've joined, the name of the mini league should be "Knighthawks Fans."
Give yourself an edge by keeping up to date with the league's fantasy coverage including position rankings and weekly buy/sell advice articles on www.nll.com/fantasy. Also be sure that you only choose Washington Stealth and Rochester Knighthawk players for your roster during Week One since they are the only two teams playing this weekend. Good luck and may the most knowledgeable Knighthawks fan win!
