Plaxico Burress’ agent Drew Rosenhaus recently visited Burress in prison and is confident that the former star receiver is ready to play for the NFL again.
According to Fox Sports, Rosenhaus had the following to say after visiting Burress in prison on Saturday: "He is in great spirits and is excited to be reunited with his family on June 6th. We talked at length about his future in the NFL and he can't wait to get back on the football field in 2011! He is mentally and physically strong right now and is looking forward to the future!"
Burress is scheduled to be released from prison on June 6th.
Plaxico Burressis currently serving a two year sentence for firearm charges he received in September 2009 after accidentally shooting himself in the leg with a .40 caliber Glock semiautomatic pistol at the Latin Quarter, a Manhattan, New York nightclub. Burress originally faced charges for second-degree criminal possession of a weapon (mandatory minimum sentence of three and a half years), but received a shorter sentence after he pleaded guilty to a lesser firearms charge. After his two year prison sentence, he will face another two years of post-release supervision.
Plaxico Burress was a football and basketball star for Green Run High School in Virginia Beach, Va. He was one of the biggest prospects to ever come out of Virginia Beach, and originally had plans to attend Florida State University. However, he headed to Michigan State University after graduating from high school in 1996, and quickly became a college star. In his first season as a Michigan State Spartan he caught 65 passes, setting a Big Ten Conference single season record. After one more year of stellar play at wide receiver and limited special teams work, Burress was selected eighth overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2000 NFL Draft. He played five years with the Steelers before being traded to the New York Giants. While with the Giants, he gained superstar status by catching the winning touchdown in Super Bowl XLII.
