Plaxico Burress: 2 years for fumbling a Glock

"Unfortunately, there was no legal defense we could offer," - Plaxico Burress attorney Ben Brafman.

If this is true, there is no such thing as a "Constitution." That once august document known as The Supreme Law of the Land has no more legal heft than an old dog-eared Daffy Duck comic book.

Former Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg in a nightclub last November and, because of New York City's anti-self defense laws, shot himself in the foot as well.

For committing the act of harming no one, except himself, Mr. Burress gets two years in the state slammer.

As pointed out by his attorney, the Constitution's guarantee of the right to keep and bear arms has no bite in the Big Apple Orchard, occupied as it is by an overabundance of irrational gun phobics.

What very few news sources have bothered to report is why the NFL star tucked a Glock in the waistband of his sweats in the first place. So here it is: a few nights before, one of his teammates was held up in his own driveway at the point of a mugger's gun.

It seems that thugs have somehow overlooked New York City's anti-carry laws and therefore actually carry guns. Perhaps they're just poor misunderstood souls who never learned to read.

Burress did what any other intelligent person with a smidgeon of common sense would have done: he exercised his constitutional right to bear arms as a means of protecting himself from a similar fate.

At worst he should have been charged with one count of Grand Stupidity for not using a proper holster, maybe fined for the inappropriate discharge of a weapon, and made to swab up the blood he spilled on the barroom floor under New York City's antilittering law.

Or maybe just penalized fifteen yards for illegal Glocking.

Nowhere do anti-gun laws take a single weapon out of the hands of criminals. Cops take guns out of criminals' hands. Sovereign individuals armed with training and handguns and a desire to defend their lives and loved ones and property take weapons out of criminals' hands. Like all such legislation, anti-gun laws serve only to disarm the intended victims of those armed criminals.

Plaxico Burress is the victim of anti-Constitutional anti-gun airheads who reject the very concept of self-defense.

Wow! Great article! I agree with what you wrote 100%

Thanks, but I doubt the opinion of a bad toupee wearing blogger in gun-friendly Texas will matter in New York.

Spot on Garry. Where was the criminal intent? This is a travesty of justice. Read remarks around the blogosphere on this one. Everyone is willing to tar and feather this guy for exercising his personal rights. They have even convinced him that he did something wrong! He is guilty of a political crime. I wish he would have gotten a good lawyer and fought it. His defender doesn't deserve another client; I pity the poor sucker who retains him!
