Rory Beca Spring 2010 Final walk
Welcome to Part 2. Missed Part 1? Click here Let’s just jump right into the Spring 2010 collections:
Starting with Leyendecker Los Angeles. Their tribal theme meets past, present and future was mostly made out of soft jerseys. Their craft seems very specific in the way they drape, twist, and fringe their garments to create the character. Personal favorite? The last look. A black sheer chiffon harem pant jumpsuit. Strangely enough that wasn’t the only harem pant of the evening. Then Secena Rising took stage, with a, what I call, 90’s grungy whimsy theme. We see lots of ruffled peplum vests in washed out colors, lots of shorts, drape and soft florals and black combat boots. Also not the only combat boots we see from the collections. Third collection was from designer Erik Hart presenting MG Black Label, a chic menswear collection, that frankly, why can’t men dress like this more often? Loved the mens rolled up cropped pants and techno fabric jackets. Erik’s been busy this month as we just saw him last week at BoxEight’s Fashion: Refocused Event. hmmm. What else does he have up his sleeve? The fourth collection by Italian designer Valerj Pobega was aptly titled “The Bondage Collection” With hair braided horse bits for each of the models mouths it was slightly distracting from her deconstructed caftan style garb. And finally a sweet ending to a great montage of designers the talented Rory Beca with her washed silk separates, some pretty incredible sequin skirts and one electric pink bubble gum mini dress that is going to be a young Hollywood red carpet favorite.
All in all, a very enjoyable runway presentation! Thanks GenArt for choosing collections Los Angeles can get behind! And with that I'd like to leave you with a fashionable joke of the evening. Upon seeing at the Valerj Pobega bondage look of a twine corset and small black cone cups covering the model’s nipples. I look to my colleague, Lauren Taylor, Examiner’s West LA Accessories Editor and ask her “how do those stay up there?” And she looks at me and says, “Plastics make it possible!” From your Editor-in-chic... I’ll see you on the streets!!
