The NHRA has announced a 60th anniversary celebration for next year’s Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals, the biggest and most prestigious event in drag racing. The 2014 U.S. Nationals will take place Labor Day weekend, August 27th through September 1st, at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.
The NHRA is planning a number of theme-park-style attractions for the event that will bring some of the biggest and most historical events that have occurred at the U.S. Nationals to life, transforming the event into the ultimate NHRA Drag Racing theme park. Among the activities planned are displays of vintage hot rods, a special track walk, autograph sessions with NHRA legends, an NHRA exclusive Cacklefest and much more. More announcements regarding the attractions and activities for the 2014 U.S. Nationals will be made over the next 12 months.
There will also be a yearlong 60th anniversary sweepstakes promotion presented by Candlewood Suites that will award the grand-prize winner a trip for two to the 2014 Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals.
As in previous years, the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals will mark the last race in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series’ “regular season,” where the final positions for the NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship will be secured. Also returning to Indy will be the Traxxas Nitro Shootouts for Top Fuel and Funny Car. The special races-within-a-race bonus event features eight of the best drivers in both categories racing for $100,000 winners’ checks.
