To be located on Grand Avenue and 2nd Street, plans now are to include a plaza on two sides of the museum building. for a sizable plaza wrapping two sides of the new building. Architects Diller, Scofidio + Renfro are facing opposition though because of previous proposals for other buildings along side it. Hopes are that palns will be successful. Leaders in architecture they have long been hailed as creating some of the best design.
Diller, Scofidio + Renfro other accomplishments include the urban-design Lincoln Center and the High Line elevated park, both in New York. Lincoln Center has long had critical acclaim, the museum will be a welcome edition. A new contemporary art museum will surely add an entirely new collection to the great city and art lovers will be thrilled to have the new venue for seeing exhibits both traveling and part of the museums own collection. It has been several years since the opening of a new museum. The public is anxiously awaiting approval of the plans.
The plans also need the approval of several city and state agencies. Amoung them are; N.Y.'s Community Redevelopment Agency, City Hall, and the City Council and the Related Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Most are in favor of, expecting it to revitalize Grand Avenue and the surrounding area. With new plans for the coming attraction, estimates are that the thriving arts community will become even more popular.
The new design will make it possible to display artwork outside the museum too. The developer has been working with Frank Gehry on another project, across from Gehry's Disney Hall. But that plan is also stalled so it is uncertain about which firm will be able to proceed. This new innovative design is sure to attract people passing by that would not have noticed it before. We look forward to a most enjoyable experience and a whole new addition to art lovers in the city.
