People who crave the outdoors are suffering from cabin fever across Kentucky, and many are starting to think about their first fishing trips of the season. Whether you're a native of Kentucky, or a newcomer you may be wonder which lakes you should try first. Here are two lakes near Louisville, Kentucky that are worth trying out.
Waverly Park (4800 Waverly Park Road, Louisville, KY, 40214)
This park is located very close to downtown Louisville, and is extremely family friendly. The lake itself is a really nice size, and the common fish found in the lake are catfish, large mouth bass, trout, crappie, bluegill, and many others. The Department of Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Resources stock catfish and trout in this lake several times a year. On top of the fishing, there are also walking, hiking, and biking trails available, along with a playground and picnic areas. It's a great place for anglers and families.
Long Run Park (1605 Flat Rock Road, Louisville, KY, 40245)
Long Run Park is about 20 minutes outside of the heart of Louisville depending on the area you are in. This park has everything you could want. The lake is an astounding 28 acres, and is full of fish, some of which are very large. It's not unusual to see an angler reeling in a large mouth bass in the two to three pound range here. There are also catfish, carp, crappie, and very large bluegill in this lake.
Long Run Park also has a tennis court, basketball court, a water park, a playground, a boat dock, and much more. These things are all free for public use without reservations. Everyone in your family will enjoy themselves at this park.
