Here is a checklist of ideas that will aid you in your quest for the perfect birthday party:
- Party Location
- Date & time
- Party Theme
- Guest list
- And don't forget your camera!
Your child's age & sex will play a huge part in your party locale. If your child is afraid of water, it's probably not a good idea to pick a place that features swimming. You know your child's likes & dislikes, which will help you to narrow it down to 1 or 2 places. Allow your child to help in the selection process by picking the final destination.
Next, choosing the date & time of your party, will affect the cost of your party. Most venues, are cheaper if you select weekday verses a weekend. Off hours will also help your bottom line if money is a factor. Keep the party time to a minimum: extending your party past 2.5 hours is not a good idea since small children tire easily. Remember, less is more!
Your Party theme will dictate what your decorations, cake & party invitations will look like. Once you know your theme, develop your guest list. There is no need to invite an entire preschool class. Keeping a party small will help keep the chaos level to a minimum. One idea is to simply invite just the boys or just the girls.
Keep the menu simple and be sure to keep it "Peanut Free". Macaroni & Cheese is a safe bet with pretzels or chips. Don't go overboard! Again, simplicity is the key.
Games are a huge hit with kids but this is one area that you should over plan. There are wonderful books that you can borrow from the Parkland Library to help with the game selection. You can do a search right on the library website and reserve the desired book. The Library will call you once that book is available and ready for pick up.
And most important on party day, be sure to take your camera, sit back & relax. You've earned it!
