Some folks dream of a little cabin in the woods. This one is made even more perfect by wifi and coffee. Sound good so far?

Then, add a fire ring outside, with a supply of firewood. (It just magically appears.) There are two grills outside, a charcoal and a gas grill. (Bring charcoal, that is your choice. Plus, there's a fully equiped kitchen. Eat at the dining table inside or, the big picnic table in the a roomy screened in porch. Or, eat at the nearby shelter, which is covered and plenty of picnic tables.

There's internet access, satellite television, DVD. If there is a chill in the morning, turn on the electric heater that looks like a fireplace.

Rim Rocks Dog Wood Cabins is pet friendly. They do not charge extra for well mannered pets. There is a two dog limit.

What fun to rent out the whole campground for a wedding or a family reunion. If either is in your future, give Rim Rocks Dog Wood Cabins a look. Owner Dixie Dart can give you a list of options.

Need some alone-time or couple-time? Bring provisions and you will never have to leave the little cabin. Stretch your legs on the private hiking trail around the 77 acres in the heart of the Shawnee Forest. Rim Rock hiking area is just across the road. Shawnee Forest Trail 101 is just behind the property.

More nearby activities and adventures: Rim Rock Recreational trail which is just across the road from the cabins. Cabins are near Cave in Rock, Garden of the Gods, free ferry to Kentucky, Pounds Hollow Lake, Glen O Jones Lake, Hog Rock, Iron Furnace, Little Sturgis, Ohio River and Tower Rock.

Jump into the swimming hole at Pounds Hollow where there is a swimming beach. It is a beautiful wooded fishing and swimming area. Day-use only area offers swimming, picnicking, fishing, boating and hiking. Enjoy several lakeside picnic sites, and a large picnic shelter overlooking the beach.

Fish from the pier or use small carry in boats, with electric motors. Only electric motors are allowed. Fish for bluegill, largemouth bass, channel catfish. Click for more details and maps.

Rim Rock Dog Wood Cabins are in the heart Southern Illinois Ozarks. The highland plateau region of the central United States is known as the Ozarks or the Ozark Mountains or the Ozark Plateau.

Bring bug spray for yourself and check your pet for ticks. Mosquitoes and noseeums are always in the woods.Ticks and chiggers can be kept away with bug spray.

When you come to the Shawnee National Forest, watch for deer. This is their home. Always watch for deer, especially at dusk.

Best time to come – The forest is beautiful year 'round. The spring and fall are the mildest and most colorful. Spring is buding dogwoods, redbuds, and wildflowers. The fall is saturated with color as the leaves turn. The summers are warm, sometimes hot and humid. Winters in the forest can look like a holiday picture post card. The forest tends to reduce some of the extreme temperatures.
