The kids are about to head back to school, the rain will start up and you still need to be entertained. Well, the Mill Valley Film Festival is ready to gear up the thought provoking entertainment in October. Movies are always a fun form of inside entertainment.
The film festival, in its 37th year, will take place over ten days at various venues in the North Bay. This year showings will happen at CinéArts in Mill Valley as well as the Christopher B. Smith Rafael Film Center in San Rafel, among other venues. The festival will kick off on October 2nd, and wrap up on October 12th.
More than 200 film makers, coming from over 50 countries, are expected to show their films.
Heading to the festival is actually good prep for awards season; Five of the last six films to take home the the Academy Award for Best Picture were screened during the MVFF. Slumdog Millionaire, The King's Speech, The Artist, Argo and 12 Years a Slave were all seen by MVFF attendees before bringing home the little golden statue. The festival has such a history with the Oscars that the MVFF hosts an annual Oscar night.
