It is possible to still have a fabulous beach-themed vacation while still doing some good helping others. The Vero Beach area of Florida is home to different organizations and groups, all of which are continually looking for volunteers. Volunteer duties for these organizations vary from office work, building homes, serving food, delivering goods to the homeless and reading to kids.

Here are some organization in the Vero Beach area that are continually looking for volunteers:

Homeless Family Center of Vero Beach

Helping families are able to get back on their feet through the Homeless Family Center, which offers programs to help families help themselves. Programs offered through the center include emergency shelter, employment assistance and counseling. Volunteer assistance is needed for office work, food preparation and mentoring.

Humane Society of Vero Beach and Indian River County

Spend time with the animals at the Humane Society where you can help find the animals new homes or spend the afternoon helping them get some exercise. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or bring an adult with if they are ages 10 to 17. Volunteers are also needed to help out in the Thrift Shops in Sebastian and Vero Beach.

Pelican Island Wildlife Refuge

President Theodore Roosevelt designated a sectional of land in the area as the Nation's first National Wildlife Refuge known as Pelican Island Wildlife Refuge. The refuge was created to help protect the brown pelicans and native birds found nesting on the island. Help keep this piece of history alive by volunteering your time at the refuge and Fish and Wildlife offices. Volunteer opportunities include tour guides, researchers, turtle scouts, horticulturists, photographers, trash pick-up and office work.

SunUp ARC

SunUp ARC works to help meet the needs of people with developmental disabilities in the Vero Beach area. Programs through ARC benefit residents with disabilities such as autism, brain injury, physically disabled, cerebral palsy and mental illnesses. Volunteers are needed to help out with preparing food, helping with arts and crafts, working fundraisers and handyman jobs. Help in the greenhouse and during educational programs are also needed.
