San Diego has a variety of yarn shops to choose from depending on what you need. There are shops and stores that have a large variety of colors and styles at a reasonable price and there are yarn shops that specialize in very specific types of yarns that may be difficult to find anywhere else. Some places have special supplies and classes for making, dying, and using yarn. Here are a few examples of some of the more popular places to buy yarn in San Diego.
Michaels
Michaels is a popular place for buying a variety of craft products including different types of yarns, needles and hooks. You can sometimes find a limited supply of patterns as well. They sometimes have yarn-related classes. There are several locations all around the county including Mission Valley, Clairemont Square, Midway area, Poway, La Mesa and others. Check their website for more locations.
Wal Mart
Wal Mart is another place where you can find a variety of colors and types of yarn and a few yarn-related supplies. However, you are generally only limited to a few brands and types of yarn. If you are looking for more specialty yarn or cordage, you might want to look elsewhere. Wal Mart stores are located throughout the county, check their website for the location close to you.
Two Sisters and Ewe
This is a very popular yarn store that has recently relocated to La Mesa from Mira Mesa. They have a great variety of yarn and supplies and even boast that they have spinning wheels. There are classes on how to dye your own yarn and on felting for about $15 for a group class and $15 for each hour of private lessons. They are known to be really knowledgeable about yarn and the place to go for anything yarn related. The store is located at 8874 La Mesa Boulevard (at Garfield).
