Pizza Luce is usually known for their amazing food, especially their pizzas. It’s an artsy, cool place all around, and that’s even reflected in their different dishes. But something that Luce should also be known for is their beer list. I’ve hardly ever seen a beer list that offers so much from local Minnesotan breweries. There were beers on their list that I had never heard of before. And it all proved to be very good.
I decided to start out with the Rush River Bubblejack, which is actually from a brewery across state lines, in River Falls, Wisconsin. Sadly, they were out, so I decided to try the Bray Brothers Sheep Head Ale, from Lucan Minnesota. This was a nice ale, very easy drinking with a good taste. It almost, almost tasted like a light beer. I then moved on to Fulton Sweet Child of Vine IPA, from Minneapolis, which was also a very easy drink with a good taste. The Crispin Brut Cider (over ice) from Minneapolis was a cool cider, though a little weaker tasting when compared to a Strongbow. As noted before, Surly is currently the drink of the Twin Cities right now, and a local was drinking a Surly Mild right next to me, which he noted was not as hoppy as normal, with a subtle smoky, coffee after taste. The bartender at Luce told me they had started out with Summits on tap, and those proved to be so popular they decided to add other local flavors. I also noticed they also had Lift Bridge Farm Girl Saison, from that new brewery in Stillwater. And what is mentioned above is just the beginning of their list.
So if you’re into local brews and great food, Luce is a great place to check out. They have five different locations: three in Minneapolis (Downtown, Uptown and Seward/University), one in Saint Paul, and one Up North in Duluth. Check out their website for directions and a menu.
