Pizza: cheaper and easier then delivery (Photos)

Tired, long day at work thinking about ordering a pizza? Here are 4 reasons why that's not the best idea.

1. Price

Little Caesars Pizza is $5 which makes it hard to believe that pizza made at home could be cheaper. Lets put aside for a moment that they receive all their ingredients in bulk, bringing down their cost more then ours; and forget they are looking for a profit as well. Lets look at what it would cost the average person to make a large pepperoni pizza.

  • Total = $3.56 verses the $5 + gas

Making a pizza with fresh ingredients straight from a grocery store is still cheaper then $5 which is the cheapest pizza you can find ready to go. Assuming you have tried their pizza, and know it is not the best quality it is not hard at this point to see a benefit to making pizza.

2. Easy to make

Heard pizza was hard to make? It is so difficult your five your old could make it up to putting it in the oven. Having pizza delivered is easy, waiting and paying for it is where it becomes annoying. Picking up pizza, you have to go get it and even the take 'n bake pizzas still have to be cooked! How easy is it then to make pizza? Here is a recipe to show just how easy pizza can be.

In a mixer add

  • 3 cups of flour
  • 3 tsp of yeast or one packet
  • 1 tsp oil
  • pinch of salt
  • (If you want flavored crust add in some seasoning here)
  • about 1 cup of water (run tap till its warm)

Mix until the dough cleans the sides of the bowl, may need to add a little flour or water

  1. For thin pizza, roll it out
  2. For thick pizza, let sit for 15 minutes before rolling
  • Roll out to desire thickness
  • Mix Italian seasoning with tomato sauce add desired toppings
  • Bake at 425 degrees for 7 minutes (on bottom of oven)
  • End of 7 slide off greased pan onto oven rack for crispy pizza another 5-6 minutes
  • (May cook 15 minutes if not desired to be crispy)
  • Pizza is ready.

Total time to make pizza is 35 minutes with allowing it to rise, that's less then delivery.

3. Personalized pizza

To get a pizza that everyone likes it requires special orders and usually more money. Someone is always picking something off their slice. Why not let everyone make their own pizza? What a great way to get everyone involved and not have to do all the work. Give each person a piece of dough let them roll out their pizza, for younger kids roll out their dough and allow them to decorate it. Kids especially like to make their own food, it gives them a sense of accomplishment. Plus they always eat more that way.

4. Nutrition

Fresh ingredients are always healthier then processed frozen foods that are found in pizza delivery or take 'n bake pizza. One of the most obvious is the amount of sodium found is far less in homemade pizza. Of course making your own allows certain benefits for your health such as: making thinner crust, using whole wheat (at least 1/2) for the crust, adding fresh vegetables, and making your own you would be surprised how much faster you fill up on less. Making homemade pizza helps bring your family and friends together, better taste, more nutritious.

There are advantages to making homemade pizza. It may seem like more work then picking up the phone, save a few dollars and bring your friends and family together for a fun healthy dinner.
