Pixie Power Week on Disney Channel
Disney Channel is airing all four of the “Disney Fairies” movies: “Tinker Bell,” “Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure,” “Tinker and the Great Fairy Rescue,” and “Secret of the Wings” this week. “Tinker Bell,” which debuted in 2008, was the first in the “Disney Fairies” movies, which are based on the popular “Disney Fairies” book series.
Tinker Bell is the little fairy from J.M. Barrie’s “Peter Pan.” The movie “Tinker Bell” tells the story of Tinker Bell’s birth, how she makes friends, and how she learns to be herself and to enjoy her given talents. The “Disney Fairies” movies differ from the book series because the movies take place before she meets Peter Pan, while the books take place after her adventures with Peter.
The “Disney Fairies” movies are released direct to DVD/Blu-ray and then aired on Disney Channel. Disney gave “Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue” a very limited theatrical release. The series is very successful and the films are beautifully animated and have lovely artwork.
The series features Mae Whitman as Tinker Bell, and Oscar winner Anjelica Huston as Queen Clarion.
The most recent installment, “Secret of the Wings,” was released in the fall of 2012. It was the first to come out on Blu-ray, and the first 3D movie in the series. Please click here for a review of the Blu-ray combo pack.
The next installment in the Disney Fairies franchise, “Quest for the Queen,” is set to be released in the spring of 2014. “Quest for the Queen” is probably a working title and may be changed by the time it’s released. In this upcoming movie, Tinker Bell and her friends get their fairy talents switched. A trailer for “Quest for the Queen” is available as an extra on the “Secret of the Wings” Blu-ray combo pack.
“Tinker Bell” and “Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure” both have sweet stories and are visually charming and enchanting.
