John and Fred. Sometimes Fred and John. Almost always Kander and Ebb.
The genius songwriting team has slowed down; The Scottsboro Boys was their last collobartion . . . and not their best.
They better slow down, unless John him propped in a chair. Ebb died in 2004), and poor Liza still misses him. (She always liked him better than John.) The hot news in town is that Pittsburgh Pops conductor Jack Everly leads three vocalists in a tribute to K&E, which will razzle dazzle everyone with music from their hit musicals and films such as Chicago, Cabaret, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Act, The Rink, Zorba, "Flora, the Red Menace, Funny Lady, Woman of the Year . . . oh the list goes on and on.
If you can't plop down the money for All That Jazz: A Symphonic Celebration of Kander & Ebb (tickets range in price from $99-$15), we suggest tossing on some K&B CDs (stay clear of ", perhaps?) and looking at these classic photos.
We share on bit of trivia: The song "My Coloring Book?" Still think it was written for Babs? No. She covered it and had a hit with it but it was a novelty tune written for Sandy Stewart. All together now: For those who fancy coloring books/As certain people do/Here's a new one for you/A most unusual coloring book/The kind you never see/Crayons ready, very well/Begin to color me/These are the eyes that watched him/As he walked away/Color them gray/This is the heart that thought/He would always be true/Color it blue . . .
If you are joining the fun, concerts will be March 6 @ 7:30 p.m.; March 7 and 8 @ 8 p.m. and March 9 @ 2:30 p.m.
at Heinz Hall.
