Pittsburgh girl on a budget: Jill

Pittsburgh girls have style and they do it on a budget! Whether they are still living in the city or bringing their style to another place, Pittsburgh girls know how to bargain hunt and look fabulous! Jill, a 27 year-old administrative assistant from Russellton talks about her style, her best bargain, and that dream purchase!

What is one word to describe your style?

Trendy. I’d love to think of a better word but I think trendy really sums it up. I certainly couldn’t compete with New York fashion but I am proud of my style. I feel confident in what I wear and I enjoy trying new things.

What are your wardrobe staples?

Some of my wardrobe staples would be…

  • A black pencil skirt. Every woman needs one. It can be dressed up or down with just about anything. There are times that I even wear a work out tank top tucked into a black pencil skirt to work! Adding the right belt or jewelry to make it a little more dressy is all you need. To be comfortable and still trendy is number one in my book!
  • Scarves can make almost any outfit look more classy. I have a fairly good amount of scarves and normally pair them with just about anything.
  • A good pair of skinny jeans that fit your body type. A lot of women feel that they don’t look good in skinny jeans. Most of the time it’s all about the fit of the jeans. When I find a pair that fit my body the right way I normally buy them in sets of two. Being a woman that is tall but also has hips it’s often hard to find jeans that fit correctly. Skinnies are my favorite fit. Whether you wear them with flats, boots or even tennies they can look good. One of my biggest pet peeves are when I see women shoving their flared jeans, or even boot cut sometimes into their boots. GO WITH THE SKINNY JEANS!
  • Definitely a hoody. Everyone has their lazy days. You have to have a nice looking hoody that you can wear out to be comfortable!

What is one piece of fashion you could never pull off?

I know that I couldn’t never pull off pumps. Some people were made to walk in them. I unfortunately am just not one of those people. For me, there comes a point where you sacrifice some type of pain for beauty. I can deal with a lot of pain but foot pain is just something I’ve never been able to handle. If I know I will be walking a lot feet are not something that I am willing to worth hurting to have a cuter look. Luckily I am 5'7 so I can find fun flats or boots to pair with an outfit instead of heels (even though I’d LOVE to).

What is your favorite clothing season (fall, winter, spring, summer)?

This is a tough one. I love summer for the hottest bikinis, dresses and tanks, but the fall is awesome for layers. I guess if I have to pick ONE I’d pick summer because I love being outside and I absolutely can’t get enough of sun dresses.

What stores do you regularly shop in?

Target, The Limited, and Express. Target has a ton of great fashion trends at amazing prices. Scarves, shoes, and my favorite the summer dresses. The Limited has wonderful business and business casual wear and the best part is at least once a week the clothing is 40% off. I'll never buy anything if it's not on sale (in the limited). Express has the young edgy fashion that I like usually at a reasonable price. They are always having a sale or sending coupons if you belong to their next program.

What was the best deal you ever found?

The best deal I've ever found was on my DKNY white watch. It was originally $350 and I got it for $45 at the Grove City Outlets.

If you were given $1000 and could splurge on one item of clothing/shoes/purses/jewelry, what would you buy?

Definitely a Louis Vuitton purse. It's something that I doubt I'd ever buy with my own money.
