Pitt will hold its annual Fan Fest at Heinz Field on Friday, Aug 22. Gates will open at 6 p.m. and admission is free. Parking is available at Gold Lot 1 and Gold Lot 2 and a concession stand will be open. The festivities are scheduled to run until 8 p.m.
Chris Farris, Pitt's Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs, feels the Friday night event should be a big hit.
"Fan fest is going to be great. This is the first time that I can recall that we're doing it on a Friday. There's no school the next day. That opens it up for our entire demographics," Farris said. "There will be a lot of activities for families and children. Everybody can relax and have fun."
One of the favorite fan fest activities will begin shortly after the gates open when the Panther players gather to sign autographs (6:15 to 7:45). Pitt head coach Paul Chryst is looking forward to the festivities.
"I know the kids enjoy [fan fest] a lot. It's fun for them to see the people, especially the fans and people that care about the team," Chryst said. "That means a lot. Our guys are certainly looking forward to it."
The live entertainment will include the Pitt band, cheerleaders, and the dance team as well as outside bands and ROC the Pitt Panther mascot. A Pitt ticket booth and a merchandise tent will be set up as well. Heinz Field bag rules will be enforced.
Pitt opens the 2014 season by hosting Delaware on Saturday, Aug. 30 at Heinz Field.
