'Pitch Perfect 2': Katey Segal joins the cast

Gemma Teller is about to show off her singing skills. On May 14 reported that actress Katey Segal has joined the cast of the upcoming movie comedy sequel "Pitch Perfect 2," which will follow the Barden Bellas through a second year of competition to get to Nationals. The film will begin production this month in Baton Rouge, with a May 2015 release date.

The story is the sequel to "Pitch Perfect," based on a book about college a cappella tournaments which was also a smash hit at the box office. The film will be the directorial debut for Elizabeth Banks, who had a cameo and was an executive producer for the first film. Banks announced the casting of Segal as Hailee Steinfeld's mom on her official website and Twitter page. She posted a picture or Segal and revealed which part she would play, without giving away the character's name.

Segal is a seasoned television actress in both comedy and drama and is most known for playing the role of Peggy Bundy on the sitcom "Married with Children" for ten years. She has also gained popularity by playing Gemma Teller Morrow on the FX biker drama "Sons of Anarchy" and has had roles on "Lost" and "8 Simple Rules." She completed voice work for shows such as "Futurama" and "Recess" in addition to film roles.

Deadline revealed on May 14 that Segal will play the mother of Hailee Steinfeld's character, although it's unclear how large her role will be. Steinfeld was cast in the film a few weeks ago and is expected to play the leading role held by actress Anna Kendrick in the first film. Steinfeld is in a position to take over the franchise once Kendrick's character Beca leaves.

Several actors from the first film will also be returning for the sequel, including Kendrick, Brittany Snow as Chloe, Rebel Wilson as Fat Amy, Adam DeVine as Bumper, Hanna Mae Lee, Ester Dean and Alexis Knapp. Segal is the first new adult cast member, and it's possible she could be connected to the school or the competition and her daughter, played by Steinfeld, joins the Barden Bellas.

The film is expected to arrive in theaters on May 15, 2015. The cast and crew have been in Louisana for weeks preparing and rehearsing for the sequel, which was written by Kay Cannon, who also wrote the first film. Segal is currently on tour with her band to promote "Covered," her latest album. She has also been featured in songs on "Sons of Anarachy" soundtrack and released two albums in 1994 and 2004, respectively.
