'Pitch Perfect 2': Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson returning

On Thursday, February 6 Comingsoon.net reported that actresses Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson will be returning for "Pitch Perfect 2," the highly anticipated sequel to the smash hit a cappella singing competition film which was released in 2012. Kendrick played the role of newcomer Beca Mitchell and Wilson played the comical role of Fat Amy.

The original film is the second highest grossing musical comedy film of all time and has brought in over one hundred and thirteen million dollars at the box office worldwide. The soundtrack for the film went platinum and is the best-selling soundtrack in digital history, with the cover song "Cups" as the most popular download.

It's possible the sequel could follow what happens after the Barden Bellas and the Treblemakers return for another year of school after nationals. With Aubrey (Anna Camp) and Chloe (Brittany Snow) gone, Beca is the new leader after bringing the group together to create a new routine to beat the Treblemakers. It has not been confirmed if actor Skylar Astin will return for the sequel, although he was Beca' s love interest in the first film.

"Pitch Perfect 2" is expected to arrive in theaters on May 15, 2015 and will be directed by Elizabeth Banks, which will be her directional debut. Kay Cannon, who wrote the screenplay for the first film will also write the screenplay for the sequel. Universal, Gold Circle Films and Brownstone Productions will produce the film with Scott Niemeyer, Max Handelman, Jeff Levine and Pete Kramer.
