'Pitch Perfect 2': Adam DeVine returning

The Treblemakers have there leader back. On May 5 The Huffington Post confirmed the news that actor and comedian Adam DeVine will return for "Pitch Perfect 2," and he will reprise the role of Bumper Allen. The character leads the male a cappella group called the Treblemakers for most of the original film, but leaves to start his career in Los Angeles before Nationls. DeVine is the first male actor from the first film to be confirmed for the sequel.

The sequel will be the directorial debut for Elizabeth Banks, who was a producer and had a small role as an announcer in the first film. The original film "Pitch Perfect" was based on a book of the same name about collegiate a cappella groups, which was released in 2008. Kay Cannon penned the original script and will return to write the sequel.

DeVine joins actresses Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, and Rebel Wilson who all starred in the first film and will return for the sequel. Brittany's character Chloe has graduated and Kendrick's Beca and Wilson's Fat Amy are trying to bring the girl's group the Barden Bellas back to Nationals. Actress Hailee Steinfeld was recently added to the cast last week and will travel to Baton Rouge shortly to begin filming.

On May 5 Deadline posted that the sequel has been given a release date by Universal as May 15, 2015. The film is set to become a summer blockbuster after the first film was a surprise box office success in 2012. The film grossed over one hundred million dollars at the box office after being made on a fifteen million dollar budget.

DeVine can also be seen on the upcoming second season of his show "Adam DeVine's House Party" on Comedy Central and the fifth season of "Workaholics." Devine's next film will be the drama "Final Girl," which Sony has scheduled for release in 2015. It's unclear how large of a role DeVine will have int he upcoming sequel, since he took a job as John Mayer's backup singer.

Filming for the movie is expected to begin at the end of the month, so more casting information should be released in the coming days. The first official photo from the set was released last week and confirmed that Ester Dean, Hanna Mae Lee, Alexis Knapp, and Kelley Jakle are in dance rehearsals. Skylar Astin, who has read the script and spoken about the project, has yet to be confirmed to star.
