Pit Fight is one of the newest "Magic: The Gathering" cards spoiled today from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert expansion set "Gatecrash."
Pit Fight - 1[R/G]
Instant (Common)
Target creature you control fights another target creature. (Each deals damage equal to its power to the other.)
"All the coins in Ravnica can't save his soul now."
-Narbulg Nine Fingers
Although Pit Fight costs one more mana to cast than Prey Upon, you'll be able to use it as an instant and also in decks that have red mana. With so many multicolored lands in the format, that means Pit Fight can be run in Boros, Izzet, and Rakdos builds. Of those, Rakdos seems like it could abuse Pit Fight the most thanks to its aggressive creatures like Dead Reveler and the massive Desacration Demon.
It's worth mentioning that you could use Pit Fight to force two of your own creatures to fight each other. It may be a very rare circumstance where you'd want to kill your own creature (say, to take out your own Dark Confidant with your Tarmogoyf so it doesn't kill you in Modern).
Fighting isn't new to red, and was recently used on Guild Feud, which rewarded decks packing large creatures.
Pit Fight can be used more strategically, and makes a great addition to any deck poised to abuse Ulvenwald Tracker. Great options include indestructible threats like Predator Ooze, large creature such as Wolfir Silverheart, or similarly with a Deathtouch creature a la Xathrid Gorgon.
How will you use Pit Fight?
