BREED-BAN PROTEST - Opponents of breed-specific legislation will hold a rally in downtown Denver on Friday, March 8 as part of efforts to persuade the city to overturn a 1989 ordinance banning pit bulls in the city. The rally will ask Denver residents to call on the city council to approve an outside, independent review of the city's law.
The rally will take place at 6 p.m. at 934 16th Street (the 16th Street Mall and Curtis). Organizers with a pro-pit bull group, Team Pit-a-Full, encourage particpants to bring signs and larger photos but to be courteous and not block traffic. Well-behaved dogs on a leash are welcome, but no pit bulls. Information
FOSTERING EVENT - The Dumb Friends League will hold a Foster Open House on Thursday, March 7 to inform potential volunteers how to make a lifesaving difference to homeless cats and kittens in its shelters. It will be 5-6:30 p.m. at the League's Quebec Street Shelter, 2080 S. Quebec St., Denver.
Participants will learn what fostering involves, will have a chance to talk to current foster parents about their experience, will meet foster staff and volunteers and take a tour of the shelter.
The League suppies foster parents with all needed supplies. Information.
FIRST AID - Foothills Animal Shelter will offer a pet first aid and CPR training class Saturday, March 9 from 1 to 5:30 p.m. It will be held at the shelter, 580 McIntyre St., Golden.
Participants will learn canine and feline CPR; rescue breathing; injury and wellness assessment; seizure, choking, and injury management; emergency preparedness,and more.
Cost is $89 per person. Includes class instruction, pet first aid handbook, and a certificate of completion.
