Pirelli was not amused by Nico Rosberg’s tweet that he needed ”toilet paper” after suffering a blowout at 200 mph during a private test of their 2014 tires for 2013 specification F1 cars including those driven by the Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari teams, etc.
Although he sought to make light of the incident, tire blowouts were a major issue during the 2013 F1 season, and this test was being run in Bahrain in order to avoid an encore during the upcoming season. At present Pirelli has declined to make any comments about the test, although they insist that their 2014 models are “safe.”
Rosberg who races under the German flag has been driving for Mercedes since 2010. He recently finished the 2013 season in sixth place in the championship, with 171 points.
Major achievements for the year included earning pole and winning the Monaco Grand Prix (after leading every lap) exactly 30 years after his father claimed victory in the same race., and leading every lap he had pole position, led every lap and won the race. He also captured his 2nd win (and 3rd of his career) at the British Grand Prix June 30th.. On June 30, Rosberg claimed his second win of the season and third of his career at the British Grand Prix.
