Yesterday, January 15, the Walt Disney Studios announced the release dates of some highly anticipated movies. The biggest one, without a doubt will be “Pirates of the Caribbean 5” which is slated to come out on July 10, 2015. Johnny Depp will reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow. “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stanger Tides” ended with Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) taking command of the Queen Anne's Revenge, while Jack got a hold of the Black Pearl which now resided in a small bottle. Jeff Nathanson has been tapped to write the screenplay and he will have his work cut out for him.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt had recently been reported to join the cast of “Guardians of the Galaxy” based on the Marvel comic book. The movie is set to come out on August 1, 2014 and will be directed by James Gunn and shot in 3D
Another Marvel comic book movie, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will open on April 4, 2014 (4/4/14). Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers/Captain America and the movie will pick up after the events of “Marvel’s The Avengers” and focus on how our hero adjusts to living in the modern world. The movie will come out in 3D and is being directed by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo.
One of Disney’s most famous animated villains gets her own live action movie, “Maleficent”. What events hardened this fairy’s heart and cause her to lay a curse upon Sleepy Beauty? We’ll find out on July 2, 2014. Angelina Jolie stars in the title role.
Finally, did you wonder where Ricky Gervais was during the Golden Globes? He was working on his new movie, “The Muppets 2”. James Bobin will return as director based on a script written by Bobin and Nick Stoller. Jason Segel will not be returning to the movie, but Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and the Great Gonzo all will. “The Muppets 2” will open on March 21, 2014.
