It's the start of a new month, and that means that TCM is doing a new Friday Night Spotlight. June's spotlight is pirate movies, and the host is comedian Greg Proops.
This event starts on June 6 with the 1924 silent film, "The Sea Hawk." Each Friday this month, these pirate movies will be airing around 8 pm EST time. The last movie that is going to air is the 1952 movie "Blackbeard the Pirate."
Other movies that are airing throughout the month are:
- "Captain Blood"
- "The Black Swan"
- "The Sea Hawk" (1940)
- "The Crimson Pirate"
- "Captain Kid"
- "The Spanish Main"
- "Treasure Island"
- "Against All Flags" (This one is making its TCM Premiere)
Those few movies are just a glimpse of what movies that will be airing this month on Fridays. Click here to see the complete list of classic pirate movies. You'll notice from the movies that Errol Flynn was a big name for swashbucklers.
So these classic swashbuckling movies are perfect for summer, really TCM has chosen a perfect spotlight to do. It's just in time for the warm weather, and pirates are always an interesting topic for most. Actually just recently another channel nabbled with pirates, it was NBC with the TV show "Crossbones." Anyway, once again this starts on the 6th at 8 p.m. EST with the silent film, "The Sea Hawk."
