Want to treat dad to a Fathers Day he’ll never forget? Turn him, and your entire family into pirates for the weekend.
The 5th Annual Northern California Pirate Festival is being held this Father’s Day weekend, Saturday June 18th and Sunday June 19th, right here on the Vallejo Waterfront, only a few short steps west of the Vallejo Ferry Terminal. One of the wonderful things is that the admission is free.
The best part of the event: you get to wear your favorite Pirate costume!
There will be non-stop entertainment for the whole family, pirate booty vendors, games for all ages, and, oh yeah, food, food, and more food.
Pull together Captain Dad’s pirate garb from the thrift shop: A big, loose fitting white shirt open at the neck with the billowy sleeves folded to the elbow, wildly striped pants tucked into his old Frye motorcycle boots from the 70’s, and an old leather weight lifting belt topped off with a long, red silk scarf tied jauntily off to one side. Don’t forget the red bandanna, either.
And, while an eye patch looks good, wearing one makes navigating a bit difficult. Sporting a side arm or sword completes the picture.
A wench costume is a bit easier: dig up any old peasant style blouse, one that has an elastic or draw string neckline, and can be pulled off the shoulders. It can be short or long sleeved, with optional ruffles at the wrist. Pair it with that tiered cotton hippie skirt hanging in the back of your closet. Add that black laced-up bodyce from your last Renaissance Faire visit . You know which one I mean, the one you just HAD to have, saved all your pennies for, and wore that one time. Yes, just that once. Throw on a pair of boots, some hoop earrings, and you are ready to go.
