My just-departed next door neighbors, Larry and Jen, brought over a condiment – a snack, really – a few weeks ago that they had introduced to me a couple of years earlier, and which pairs really well with beer. And, so, it makes it a perfect addition for a Super Bowl party.
It is Tony Packo’s Sweet Hot Pickles & Peppers (it’s mostly pickles). From Toledo, Ohio these are popular well beyond the Toledo metro, I’ve been told, at least to the Monongahela River in Pennsylvania and even points further west into the heart of Big 10 country. These pickles deserve to be even more popular. I am, generally, not a big fan of pickles. I eat them just occasionally, but I found these Sweet Hot Pickles absolutely delicious, and tough to resist. I was quick to agree with their marketing slogan: “the perfect blend of sweet and hot... the tastiest pairing you'll ever find in a jar!”
Tony Packo’s have been available around Houston in past. I am not entirely sure now, but they are worth the effort to find. Spec’s has carried Tony Packo’s in the past. H-E-B, Central Market or another supermarket chain might carry the Sweet Hot Pickles. If not, you can order these on-line. You’ll miss the Super Bowl, of course, but you should give them a try if you like pickles at all; or, if you just like snacking with a cold beer. These can be addictive.
