Pippa Middleton, the younger sister of British royal Kate Middleton, started her 3,000-mile cross-country bike race to raise money for charity.
Pippa and her younger brother, James, are part of an eight-person team participating in the Race Across America to raise money for the British Heart Foundation and for their friend James Matthews, whose brother died while descending Mount Everest in 1999.
Pippa's team will bike 3,000 miles across 12 states in eight days, she wrote on her sponsorship page. The race kicked off June 14 in San Diego and ends in Annapolis, Md., June 21.
"We are aiming to complete this non-stop challenge in eight days, riding between 350 and 500 miles a day," said Middleton.
Pippa, James and Kate Are All Excellent Athletes
The Middletons are both great athletes who have experience doing endurance events. In 2012, Pippa and James completed a seven-hour cross-country ski marathon in Sweden (also for charity). In 2011, Pippa completed a 50-mile duathlon in the Scottish Highlands, for which she ran 20 miles and cycled another 30 miles.
Pippa, 30, is in fantastic shape thanks to the low-carb Dukan diet and rigorous boxing, Pilates, running, swimming, and circuit-training workouts.
The controversial Dukan Diet, created by French physician Pierre Dukan, claims dieters can lose seven pounds in five days. Dieters are told to drink two liters of water a day, eats lots of lean protein, and walk for at least 20 minutes daily. In 2010, Kate Middleton's mother, Carole, made headlines after losing 56 pounds on the Dukan Diet.

Meanwhile, the glamorous, size-two Kate is no stranger to diet and exercise. Middleton achieved her incredible 29-pound weight loss just two months after giving birth to son George (in July 2013) with a low-carb diet, running, walking, yoga and fat-burning circuit-training workouts.
Middleton's longtime friend and former college rowing partner Emma Sayle told Life & Style the Duchess of Cambridge gained only 29 pounds and worked out and ate healthy during her pregnancy.
Kate stayed super-fit by running and hitting the gym. That helps in bouncing back. Kate loves exercise and did lots of swimming and Pilates while pregnant. It’s really helped her lose weight.”
The duchess, a former high-school and college athlete, is a longtime fitness fanatic who worked out an hour a day and followed a portion-controlled low-carb diet before getting pregnant.
Sources who have known Kate for years said she has always been careful to never overeat, and became even more disciplined about her diet after marrying Prince William. "She’s quite figure-conscious and she’s very aware that the camera adds a good 10 pounds," said a source. "She is tiny, with no hips."
