Pinnacles National Park Celebration, Feb. 11, 2013

The U.S. Department of Interior has announced the celebration and tour of the newest national park, Pinnacles National Park on Monday, February 11, 2013. Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar will join U.S. Representative Sam Farr, California Secretary for Natural Resources, John Laird, Natinal Park Service Pacific Regional Director, Chris Lehnertz and others to celebrate the establishment of Pinnacles National Park. The 59th national park, Pinnacels was elevated from a national monument to national park status by legislation sponsored by Sam Farr and Senator Barbara Boxer and signed into legislation by President Obama in January, 2013.

The public is invited to attend the celebration at Pinnacles National Park Pinnacles Campground (via East Entrance) Paicines, CA. Starting at 1:20 P.M. on Monday there will be a historic walking tour of the Ben Bacon Ranch. At 2:00 the educational displays open, and registration and the reception begin at 2:45. The opening ceremony begins at 3:45, and featured guest include Congressman Sam Farr and the Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar. Pinnacles National Park hosted over 343,000 visitors last year, and supported more than 48 local jobs. With the establishment of its national park status, it is hoped that what last year brought in over $4.8 million to the local economies, will increase even more.
