Despite the first snow storm of the season Saturday night, the game went on and Bridgeport's Sound Tigers defeated the Providence Bruins 2-1. It was Pink Rink night at the Webster Bank Arena where all the Pink jerseys were to be bid on and auctioned off. Due to low attendance because of the snow storm, the silent auction will be extended through the game against the Hartford Wolf Pack on Dec. 26
Mike Cornell scored his first AHL goal early in the first to give the Sound Tigers a 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, the Sound Tigers Alan Quine scored giving them a 2-0 lead. The goal was Quine’s third of the season.
The Sound Tigers, out shot Providence 16-7 in the opening 20 minutes. Providence had a leading 10-8 shots on goal advantage through the second. Nilsson stopped the first 26 shots he encountered. With 12 minutes remaining in the third, the Bruins Justin Florek scored to make it a 2-1 game but the Sound Tigers held on for the win.
With the win, the Sound Tigers now improve to 10-12-1-3. The Sound Tigers return home to the Webster Bank Arena next Saturday at 7pm to play the Monarchs.
