Pinewood Social: you can eat healthy gourmet

See also

Pinewood Social, at 33 Peabody Street in Nashville, is located in one of the old Nashville Transit Authority buildings near the Gateway Bridge and Thermal Transfer Plant. This large complex, which has stellar views of the Cumberland River and downtown Nashville, is being repurposed as a place for people to enjoy. Outdoors, there are pleasant paved walks and vantage points for photographs. Inside, you will find just about every form of casual dining and entertainment available. There is a six-lane bowling alley (equipment scavenged from an old alley in Indiana) where the hourly rate includes bowling shoes and balls. Two private event areas are available for hire, and there are two small (6 persons) rooms for private karaoke parties. For coffee house habitues, there is a 'living room' area with wifi, newspapers, and magazines where you can eat and lounge. Near the large bar, there is a communal table, plus the usual dining area.

All of this has been paired with a casual yet gourmet menu for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, and late night. Here drinks are on a par with food; there is a coffee and tea bar as well as a variety of liquors, including 'mocktails'. Iced tea and colas are available but not on the menu. Here you can find unusual menu entries like veal sweetbreads, chicken livers, pork bellies, beef tongue, and calf's liver..

The lunch in my slide show is the turkey with cranberry, charred onions, and mustard on toasted variety bread. With this sandwich, you can choose an order of fries, a cauliflower salad, or a green salad. The waitstaff is happy to answer questions like is the cauliflower chopped small enough for the dentally impaired to chew, so I chose that option. What a sensuous delight! The small bits of cauliflower, golden raisins, and peanuts are apparently soaked in a peanut sauce. Yum! The sandwich was also a delight, with extremely flavorful turkey, cranberries, charred onions, and a tangy mustard. This definitely was not your usual table mustard. Each diner gets an old-fashioned milk bottle full of water; I used that rather than ordering a beverage.

Valet parking is offered, but you can self-park in the lot opposite the valet stand. DO NOT attempt to park in the lot near Hermitage Avenue. This is a great location for a business lunch or a night out with friends.
