Free agent pitcher Joel Pineiro has signed a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles.

He hasn't pitched in the majors since the 2011 season. During that season, he has an ugly 5.13 ERA in 145 2/3 innings with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

In November 2012, he elected to become a free agent. This came after being shut down in July for having surgery to repair a SLAP tear in the labrum of his right shoulder.

He had a 2.96 ERA in 24 1/3 innings at two minor league levels before the injury. He signed with the Baltimore Orioles with a minor league contract after being released in spring training by the Philadelphia Phillies last season.

He pitched six innings with the Phillies, before being released.

He was with the Angels in 2010 and 2011. Before signing with the Angels, he was with the St. Louis Cardinals from 2007 through 2009.

He started the 2007 season with the Boston Red Sox, before being traded to the Cardinals. He was with the Seattle Mariners from 2000 through the 2006 season.

He has started 263 games in his 12 year career and has made $48.195 million dollars in his career. He has a 104-93 career in 1,754.1 innings at the major league level with a 4.41 ERA.

He is expected to start the 2013 season at the Triple-A level.
