Pine Mountain State Resort Park, near Pineville, will host a Winter Photo Weekend on January 25 through January 27, 2013.
The event will feature a digital photography competition with divisions for amateur and accomplished photographers, impressive evening picture shows, and instructional guidance from Ian Plant, an acclaimed nature photographer for over 20 years.
Photographers can expect to find woodlands, waters, weather, and wildlife all on tap for fabulous opportunities to capture unique images all within the boundaries of the Pine Mountain State Resort Park. Evenings during this event will consist of picture shows from Plant plus the sharing of ideas and experiences from other participants.
The Winter Photo Weekend will be held regardless of the weather; the park has snow removal equipment and will be prepared for all conditions. In fact, snow in the park may enhance picture-taking prospects.
The registration fee for Winter Photo Weekend is $30.00 for adults and $20.00 for youths 17 and under; advanced registration is required.
Pine Mountain State Resort Park will be offering a special package deal for this event priced at $142.00 for one person or $192.00 for two persons. The package deal includes two nights’ accommodations, two evening meals, and admission to all shows as well as the digital photography competition.

Winter is perhaps the best season for visiting and hiking the Southern Appalachians – the leafless trees offer stunning view of the mountain tops and great photo opportunities.
Pine Mountain State Resort Park became Kentucky’s first state park in 1924 on land donated by local county officials. At first the park was called Cumberland State Park; the name was changed in 1938 so as to avoid confusion with the newly formed Cumberland Falls State Park.
During the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) constructed roads, bridges, shelters, and trails along with log cabins that are still a part of park’s rentals.
Pine Mountain is located in south-central Kentucky not far from where Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia meet at Cumberland Gap and about 190 miles from Metro Louisville. (For detailed directions, consult Google Maps.)
Facilities at the park include the 30-room Herndon J. Evans Lodge, cottages, Mountain View Restaurant, mini golf, playgrounds, picnicking, a pool, trails, and more.
