Wednesday, as 12 and 13-year olds from around the world played in the 2010 Little League World Series (LLWS), pin collectors from around the country sat trading pins, apparently obvious to the fact that the games were even taking place. Several websites are also dedicated to Little League pin traders from around the world.
Pin collecting typically happens around any major sporting event…the Olympics and the Little League World Series. And for the most part, the kids trade the pins in an attempt to make their collection complete. But adults trade the pins as well, and many have come to the LLWS from as far away as Las Vegas to trade pins, and make new pin trading friends.
According to Greenwichtime.com:
Whitey Mausteller, of Williamsport, knows about bonding with his children over pins. He got into collecting while coming to the World Series with his son 15 years ago. But as his son grew up and moved on to college and women, Mausteller has continued to trade.
"I like being with the kids," Mausteller said. "The kids are great."
Also impressive of the trade is the number of generations appearing at the World Series on a year-to-year basis for pin trading.
"You make friends with the kids and then you see the kids grow up," Dee Steinbacher, a 19-year trader from Williamsport, said.
