Tessa, a Cane Corso, was in great need to find a new home. She is a beautiful dark brindle Cane Corso. She was at a pound in Yanceyville, NC just on the border of Danville, VA. She was rescued by the Lizards Wizards Animal Place in Charlotte, NC. Jim Shay, a volunteer from the shelter, drove her to Salisbury where Brittany Malatesta, from the rescue group, then drove her to Paula in Mooresville. This is where Tessa was checked into Lake Norman Animal Hospital on the 5th for a check up and boarded for the night. Paula worked on getting Tessa a new home and needed her to get to Huntsville, Tx which is just North of Houston. A Pilots-n-Paws pilot names Don Travis met with Paula and Tessa and flew her from Mooresville to Athens, Ga where James Kleen, of Savannah, GA, decided to help out with the second leg of the trip. James then flew her to Chuck Wallace, of Dallas, TX, for the third leg. James picked her up on Sunday the 6th to fly her out. Once they met Chuck in Meridian, MS she had some potty time and a little exercise before getting ready to fly out once more.
Once they got to Shreveport Louisiana deteriorating weather forced an alternate plan. By Longview, TX the visibility was very poor, ceilings were getting lower and Dallas became an unrealistic target due to continually worsening conditions. After landing in Longview and securing the aircraft, Chuck rented a car and drove the last 120 miles to Dallas. Tessa stayed with Chuck , Michele and their Aussie--Astro for the night in Dallas at his home until the next evening when her newly adopted family was able to drive to Dallas and return her to her new home in Huntsville. Chuck's plane remained stranded in Longview until Wednesday morning when the weather system finally cleared and returning to Dallas via air became feasible.
The things people do for the love of pets. These are six people that took time out of their day and their busy schedules to help save one little animal. These are great people and are doing great things for pets all over. We all should all be grateful for organizations that has volunteers like this and for the shelters that help them and the fosters parents that take care of them in until the new pet parents can get their new family member. It is a group effort, but so worth it in the eyes of the poor little souls they save. It may have taken three days of travel for Tessa but it is well worth it. Tessa has been renamed by her new momma pet parent. Her new name is Karma Lita Francis. All thanks to some pretty special people that made all of this possible.
