AOPA announced the winner of AOPA's 2010 Fun to Fly Sweepstakes airplane during their annual Aviation Summit in Long Beach, CA. Yorke Brown of Etna N.H. was introduced as the winner of the Remos GX light sport aircraft. During the video introduction, AOPA President Craig Fuller said 'The day you give away an airplane is a very good day.'
Brown is a scientific and engineering consultant and a certificated flight instructor. AOPA states that Brown has been a member since 1986 and that he loves to fly in New Hampshire. AOPA quoted Brown as stating that 'No matter where you go there are things to see and things to do.' He had joined AOPA as a student pilot and maintained his membership throughout the years.
Brown was invited to Lebanon Municipal Airport (KLEB) under the guise of being selected to participate in a demonstration of a new flight training simulator feature. As part of a research study, Brown would demo the Parrot feature of Redbird Flights Simulations new software. Parrott is an artificial intelligence driven radio communication system that allows the pilot to speak to and hear back accurate air traffic control instructions that correspond with the flight within the simulator.
During the presentation, AOPA, Redbird and airport staff had the simulator announce that Brown was the winner of the contest at which point, Craig Fuller also entered the room. He directed Brown to the window where the Remos GX was parked.
The 2011 AOPA sweepstakes plane is a renovated and modified Cessna 182, announced early and currently undergoing it's repairs and modifications.
