Pikmin 3 release date summary

Pikmin 3 is coming back to the shelves, and the release date couldn’t come any sooner. Nintendo hasn’t set the exact date yet, but the game is likely to come out this summer (Q2 2013). This will be the third installment of the Pikmin series, and will be one of the Wii U’s most anticipated release titles. [Elder Scrolls Online is coming to PC]

Pikmin 3 will have two new Pikmin to control, and a whole new story, but as of yet very few details have been released. We do know that all the old Pikmin will still join the adventure, and we can assume that only 100 Pikmin can be on the field at once, just as in Pikmin 1 and 2.

Based on analysis of the E3 demo of Pikmin 3, we can assume some interesting details. First off there will be a new roll capability for Olimar, as well as the Pikmin. This new ability allowed Olimar to lead his Pikmin in a sudden and quick roll to avoid danger. Be careful with this roll however, as seen in the E3 demo, if you roll into a wall and then back, the Pikmin won't roll the second time and will temporarily separate from Olimar.

Second, according to the E3 demo, it looks as though rock Pikmin come from an outside source and cannot be replicated in the way red, yellow, and blue Pikmin do. Instead these rock Pikmin come from a creature that looks like a round floating ball of jelly with a load of rock Pikmin inside. This creature hovers above the ground and is fairly easy to kill. Upon death it drops 5 or 10 rock Pikmin and can then be carried back to the ship for money or Pikmin.

The Rock Pikmin themselves likely serve multiple purposes, but as seen in the video, at least one of the purposes is to break crystalline structures that block the path. Throwing rock Pikmin at these ice blocks shatters them and clears the path for Olimar and his gang of Pikmin.

As for the boss battle portion of the E3 video, one new addition (at least for that particular boss battle) is cut scenes for boss battles. Whether or not these cut scenes will be part of every boss encounter is currently unknown.

So far the only truly confirmed Pikmin are the new rock Pikmin. These new Pikmin are are used to smash things or break things, and it’s a wonder how Olimar is able to throw such heavy Pikmin. It’s also speculated that there will be flying Pikmin, based entirely on seeing them in the title screen of the game, this is likely to be true, especially considering the fact that Pikmin 2 brought about 2 new Pikmin, it would be no surprise if Pikmin 3 followed the same trend.

One thing that is known is that Pikmin 3 has a colossal following and is likely to be one of the best Nintendo games of 2013.
