On Sunday, August 25 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., The J. Clyde (1312 Cobb Lane, Birmingham) and Piggly Wiggly will host the 2nd Annual Craftly Beerly Beer Bash to help you get more familiar with the constantly growing craft beer selection we enjoy here in Birmingham.
When asked where someone can find a great craft beer selection in the city, many folks are shocked to hear me respond that you don't have to go much further than your Homewood or Birmingham-area Piggly Wiggly. Where most supermarket beer sections are dominated by our country's largest, lager producing breweries, these Piggly Wigglys have gone against the grain to carry fresh, quality craft beer as the majority of their beer selection. On top of that, knowledgeable staff members educate and suggest beers to customers, hold regular craft beer tastings, and even carry rare and limited offerings that you would be hard pressed to find anywhere else in the city. The Piggly Wiggly approach to craft beer is no longer an oddity; it is now one of the standards of how to promote craft beer in Birmingham.
To continue their dedication to the local craft beer scene and those that enjoy it, Piggly Wiggly will hold their 2nd Annual Craftly Beerly Beer Bash on Sunday, August 25. In an intimate beer tasting on the beautiful patio at The J. Clyde, local beer lovers will have the rare opportunity to weed through and sample a good portion of the somewhat intimidating amount of options they face these days when on a beer run. We are talking almost one hundred of the finest specialty/craft beer offerings available locally will be pouring at this event. All of our local distributors will also be on site with representatives available to discuss with you their products and answer any questions you may have. If that was somehow not enough to grab your attention, there will also be giveaways and raffles throughout the event to give you the chance to go home with some awesome schwag prizes.
Tickets for this event are $18 each, and they are available at the Homewood (3000 Montgomery Highway, Homewood), Crestline (93 Euclid Ave, Birmingham), McCalla (4750 Eastern Valley Road, McCalla) and River Run (3800 River Run Dr., Mountain Brook) Piggly Wiggly locations. Your ticket gets you admission and unlimited beer samples during the event. All proceeds from ticket sales go to benefit Free the Hops and their mission for better beer in Alabama. Ticket sales end at Piggly Wiggly locations on Saturday, August 24. If tickets do not sell out in advance, any remaining tickets will be offered at the door day of the event.
If you have ever been overwhelmed in the beer aisle and wished you could just try a beer before pulling the trigger on a $10 bomber, this is the event for you. You truly are not going to find a cheaper or more convenient way to sample this many beers in one spot. Deep down, you know it's true. Since we have all made up our minds here, just remember to get your tickets as soon as possible because they are limited and last year's event did sell out. I look forward to raising a glass with you all at this great event on Sunday. Prost!
