If you live near Rockford, IL, and you like good beer, find your way to Pig Minds on Route 173. Nestled on a side street behind Menard's, Pig Minds is situated in an unlikely location for such fine selections of beers. Once you've found your way there, you will wish that you lived right next door to it.
The beer menu is well-constructed. The half a dozen or so beers are arranged according to alcohol content, from the least to the most alcoholic. What I liked best are the baby sized 5 oz servings one can order to sample many beers.
In addition to brewing up flavorful and fragrant beers, the restaurant serves up an unlikely menu in the land of carnivores. It is 100% vegetarian. On my first visit, I was only interested in beer sampling. My companions, however, all ordered food and seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed the hummus, the vegan burgers, the chickpea salad, and the mountains of garlic fries.
If there is one down side, I'd say it's the loud music, which made it hard to hear half of what my companions were saying. But nobody seemed to mind. Just shout at the top of your voice.
