Piers Morgan, the television talk show host of “Piers Morgan Live,” is being shown the door at CNN. Morgan has had an extreme decrease in television ratings in the past, and CNN’s president Jeff Zucker has determined it is time for Morgan to go, according to a Yahoo! News report on Sunday.
Morgan, a former British tabloid editor, replaced Larry King in the prime-time, 9 p.m. slot on CNN’s schedule. However, he has had a great deal of difficulty in drawing the audience that King, an extremely popular talk show host, had in that time slot.
Morgan is very British, and has had a hard time connecting with an American audience. He seemed to do little to curb his thick British accent which many listeners found less than endearing – to say the least. In fact, it was found to be terribly annoying by many. Additionally, Morgan didn’t hide his preference for many British customs over American customs – including his die-hard love of cricket over American football. He also had some opinions which did not set well with his potential audience - such as his staunch opinions on gun control.
CNN says the date of the final broadcast with Piers Morgan is yet to be decided – but suggests it is definitely coming sometime soon.
