Director Pierre Morel knows how to take has-been older actors, and reinvigorate their careers. It worked with Liam Neeson in “Taken,” and it would have worked with John Travolta with “From Paris with Love” (he messed that one up with his personal life), and now it is likely to happen for Sean Penn (“I Am Sam”).
Sean Penn roughly does one movie a year, but hasn't been a mainstay in Hollywood for a while (his name doesn't carry the weight it used to), and while “Gangster Squad” would have been a step in the right direction if it was more successful now he has Pierre helming his upcoming thriller “Prone Gunman.”
Heat Vision reported yesterday that an adaptation of a novel by the same name, “Prone Gunman” was adapted by Peter Travis (“Dredd”) and has Sean Penn playing an international operative who is betrayed by his organization and led on a cat-and-mouse chase across Europe.
This has all the makings of a kick-ass action movie, and Sean Penn is a tremendous actor, so hopefully this spawns a franchise for him and helps thrust him back into the spotlight.
Maybe one day he will receive his own hunting season like Liam Neeson.
