The Chicago Symphony Orchestra announced yesterday that Helen Regenstein Conductor Emeritus Pierre Boulez has reluctantly withdrawn from his March performances with the CSO following the instructions of his doctors. Conductors Cristian Macelaru and Asher Fisch will serve as Mr. Boulez's replacements.
Cristian Macelaru will conduct the CSO on Thursday, March 7 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, March 9 at 8 p.m.; and Tuesday, March 12 at 7:30 p.m. He will lead a slightly changed program, with Bartók’s Divertimento for String Orchestra replacing Messiaen’s Chronochromie. Mr. Macelaru is associate conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra. He made his CSO debut in February 2012 and received the prestigious Sir Georg Solti Emerging Conductor Award last year from the Solti Foundation US.
Mr. Fisch will come to the podium on Thursday, March 14; Friday, March 15; and Saturday, March 16 at 8 p.m. The program for this concert will remain unchanged. Mr. Bush is currently the principal guest conductor of the Seattle Opera and formerly served as music director of the New Israeli Opera.
