While not life-threatening, the bullet that hit a Pierce County deputy in the arm this afternoon necessitated a hasty trip to the emergency room. The deputy is thought to be undergoing surgery at this time.

Just after 3:30 p.m. local time, Pierce County deputies were called to the 21600 block of Mountain Highway in Spanaway where an unnamed suspect had barricaded himself inside a storage unit.

Currently, there is a SWAT unit on site as it is believed the man is armed with both semi-automatic and automatic firearms and is heavily armed with ammunition, according to Pierce County spokesman, Ed Troyer.
